Catbird offers up Forest Fire’s "Survival" for whatever you feel like paying

July 1, 2008

Well, now that terms like “Post-In Rainbows,” and “The Radiohead Model,” are here to stay, it’s good to know that the trend, a good one for music fans, as hyped as it may be, is being utilized by bands who know how to play music and labels who know how to get music in the hands of listeners. I can’t think of a better instance than the new LP Survival from Brooklyn-based Blog/Label Catbirdseat/Catbird Records. Forest Fire is quite accurately described as “Homegrown Hymns for those with no religion.”

Bedroom-recorded drums, mandolins, and guitars whose paint jobs are suffering. Lazy and forlorn vocals, plodding basslines, smokey harmonies, and buzzing electric guitars. Amps with bad grounds, drumsticks that are about to split in half, old sparkly snares with cracked shells, hardwood floors with uniedentifiable stains, ya know. It’s modern day Americana for the Brooklyn sect.
