Travels = Metal Hearts + Victory At Sea

I recieved an email from Anar of the Metal Hearts with two Sunday morning suprises: two mp3’s from his newest project Travels. Travels is the result of a European tour with Boston’s Victory at Sea. When the tour was over Anar packed up and moved to Boston to move in with Victory frontwoman Mona Elliott. The result of their cohabitation? These beautiful little clostraphobic songs. The first, Isabelle is a sweeping narrative of love (or lack thereof) gone wrong. A tiny drum machine pounds away in the distance, frantically trying to make it’s point, handclaps scattered throughout, while the electric guitar plucks away as many minor chords as could be fit into a 3 minute pop song. The second, What We Are is a slightly more subdued track in which Elliot and Badalov warn “It’s gonna give it’s gonna break.” The drum machine is there again as are some wonderful samples proclaiming “I don’t know what we are, what are we?” The perfect soundtrack for the winter months: Hushed, warm, and intimate. Highest reccomendation.
